We Need to Talk:

God Speaks to a Modern Girl

When I decided to return to the Church, I did so kicking and screaming. No way was I going to let God change me into a “Jesus freak” who runs around yelling “praise the Lord” at inappropriate moments.

At least that’s what I thought He had in mind.

You see, when God entered my world, He waded knee-deep into piles of sin and dealt daily with my stubborn refusal to like Him. I clung to that stereotype of a vengeful, finger-pointing God who went out of His way to condemn anything even remotely resembling fun. That’s who I wanted Him to be – the God I was familiar with – the one I was oddly comfortable with because He didn’t challenge me to think outside the box when it came to my faith (or lack of it).

But I didn’t figure this out until He did something really amazing, something I never expected in a million years from a so-called vengeful God toward a girl as naughty as I was at the time. I was so bad, in fact, that on the night of my first confession in 15 years, I asked the priest to let me tell him what I didn’t do; otherwise, we’d be there all night.   

We Need to Talk: God Speaks to a Modern Girl is the story of the miracle that changed the course of my life, helped me to realize who He truly is and why He’s not really out to change us. He’s just trying to help us become who we were meant to be – if we would just get out of His way!
